My great great grandmother (Granny Mildred) had a small citrus grove and she would do something with grapefruit seeds that cleared any sort of infection in the mouth. I wish I had actually seen her do it.
Tobacco does work for insect stings. Granny Mildred smoked her entire life, and she'd take one of her cigarettes, chew them up, and smear it on all sorts of stings.
She also believed that everyone needed a good cleaning out once a week. She was always concerned that I hadn't been cleaned out since the last time I saw her, so in the evening she'd make a strong dandelion tea and send me to the toilet with the sears catalog for reading. She'd say, "You better stink it up real good," .... like I could do anything else
