Weight is part and parcel of type. As a matter of fact, I'm convinced it is the essential ingredient to type.
Type must come first before anything else (excepting health and vigor which are givens). Everything else is mere window dressing.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. In my birds, I find that when a bird is the proper weight for cock, hen, cockerel, pullet, the other parameters of type are usually present.

Yes I agree the weights and standards (SOP) are what makes the distinguishing factors for each and every breed(type) any difference/deviation simply makes it something else, or worse than that "nothing" in particular. I have lots of those nothing in particulars"my Swampers" around here, LOL just chickens, boy they sure are pretty things but still just nothings.

Yes, I know. I have been looking at them and trying to decide which one would be best for my purposes. Has to have a base big enough for my birds to stand on. I think I have decided on a postage scale that weighs really well and dependably correct up to 40 pounds. I'll never have a 40 pound bird so that should work... unless I get turkeys but I won't be breeding anything like that to standard.

I have the top one most of my breeds aren't supposed to be over 11 lbs so I got this one if i ever get any others then the 70 lb. is not a bad deal either.

I got a Saga postal scale on ebay for about 15.00 delivered that does everything. It is AC or battery, corrects itself etc, etc. A very nice scale.

This is the one I have been considering. It has a good sized weighing platform at 8 3/4" x 7 1/8" All the reviews I read are really good.

I have a Ultraship 55, it has a detachable front that works out nice.

It weighs in pounds, pounds : ounces, grams and kilograms.

Ok, I just ordered my scale. Got the one from Amazon as I like the size of the weighing platform and it comes with the AC adapter. Now... onto improved breeding to the SOP!
