Hi. I've been raising chickens on my own for about a year and a half in southern Utah, at high elevation so it's usually cold here. However, my first experience with chickens was as an asthmatic teen on my mother's farm. Her coop had so little ventilation that I could not go in it for even 1 minute without triggering an asthma attack. My coops have MUCH better ventilation. I also watched her free range banties keep bugs out of the garden. Mom was organic before the word had been invented!

I have 25 Black Austrolorps, 15 Rhode Island Reds, 25 Dominiquers, 10 Easter Eggers, 8 Buff Brahmas, 7 Dark Cornish, 4 Rainbow Rangers, and 1 Gold Laced Wyandot. No, they are not all in one coop! They are currently divided between 3 coops and a cattle shed, and they free range on 10 acres of sagebrush.

I have a very fowl mind and thoroughly enjoy spending time with the roosters as well as the girls. I tend to have a hard time concentrating though so I guess you could say I'm a bit flighty. Hopefully my punny attitude doesn't provide too many openings for others to peck on me.
