Old cabinet incubator question - NEED ADVICE

Hi folks.

I have a chance to buy an old cabinet incubator cheaply. (under 100) It 'works' according to the owner. Can components be purchased to upgrade this? Like the turners and and electric thermostat, etc, if it needs it?

Should I take the drive and get it and try to fiddle with it? Or should I hold out for a used dickey or sportsman?

Part of me wants to just plunge and order a new one.

I know if I don't jump on this one, it will be gone.....

advice, thoughts please?

Jen, what kind of incubator did you buy? I would go out on a limb here and say that most parts can be bought from GQF. How old is yours and what kind?

Hi Gate, I didn't buy it yet. I'll know when "he" comes home for his lunch break. They sound like a very old couple and I suspect it has some years on it. I am tempted to just go get it for that price. But then again, I hate to waste money if it isn't going to be really a good prospect in the long run, you know?

It depends, there are usually 3 main components to a "Bator"

1 - thermostat
2 - fan
3 - heating element or source

I didnt include turner since you said it was "old"

Any of those three components that I listed above can be replaced most of the time.

You should also check on the wiring condition of the incubator.

tell him what you have, and he'll tell what its worth and if there are parts available, great guy to talk to, answers the phone himself. if you get the machine, he's out side talking care of his animals.
