She will be much more likely to stay on the nest if she has eggs.

I let her keep the egg she was setting on this morning. I don't know if she is still there or not? I haven't gone back out there, it's almost 100 outside and I'm sooo hot!!!

You should send a couple dozen degrees this way, its only 40 here.

You could sure have'em!! It's way too hot. I would be happy if it was in the 60's. I'm not a summer person

I usually let them sit in the nests with the large laying flock for a couple days to make sure she is really serious. It is best that she cannot see the main flock, Ideally it should be a dark, quiet place.

Thanks!

Could something else be getting to her eggs and eating them? A snake perhaps?

Nope, definitely not a snake. She was just sitting there eating one under her today.

My husband thinks maybe she had too many and decided to eat a few since she was hungry. That's his guess anyway. I moved her to her own cage with more hay (after cleaning her up - yolk all over her legs and belly) and her own food and water. There's 5 eggs left, so we'll see what happens. The eggs are new - the 5 I put under her the 2nd day were just laid that day. I put 2 under her the 3rd day. She seems to have left them alone. I don't know if anything will come from them, but I guess we'll see.

She should be ok, has she lost much weight yet?

I haven't weighed her, she was the largest hen in my flock, and the alpha. Funny, my other hens look to have filled out a bit in the past week, I think my alpha wasn't too good at sharing the feed...
