Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I LOVE your EE lady!! She's beautiful. I have 2 whitish EE pullets right now. Can't wait to see how they turn out as mature girls. I didn't know EEs came in such fancy colors until I hatched out my second generation.

Mona is BEAUTIFUL! And so is the nest you've put together for her. I bet she will be VERY happy now. Now I have to wait another 21 days for a hatch!!!!

I agree, she is so pretty! I have 3 EE's, and I just love them. They have the cutest fluffy faces and are such sweethearts. When the mean girls come around (my older flock of 5) my EE's hop up on my feet begging me to pick them up. They also prefer I hold the treats when feeding them instead of just throwing it to the ground. That way my sleeves are close so they can wipe their beaks on them.

Thank you BarnGoddess and Miss Lydia. She's been so patient with me with all the fussing I've done. She's a good girl.

And Jibs...I'll expect to see you at home in about 22 days!! Chickies and hugs and homemade pizza....can't resist that can ya?

I'm positive it's not other flock mates or predators because they are either in a secure dog crate (total plastic surround type) and or a special built broody box with 1" mesh!

I'm sure it probably happens, I've just not had it happen yet, I wonder if it's the ones they know aren't fertile. I have no idea but might be worth some investigating.
maybe others on here have had this happen?? How many eggs did she start with and how many left and what day are you on?

As I am listening to the egg in my incubator hatch , cheeping and clicking nonstop, I thought now might be a good time to ask my broody question. I have a broody with eggs under her due to hatch Mon. I've heard several of you say that chickens can't count, so do you think I would be able to sneak this loan chick under her after some of her eggs have begun hatching? I'd hate for little Hope to be alone in a brooder by herself, and I much prefer momma to do her thing if possible than raise all the chicks in a brooder. That being said, we worked so hard to keep the two eggs in the incubator alive during power outages and hurricanes that I would be devastated to lose the only survivor (maybe, haven't completely given up on egg 2) to picking. Thoughts or advice?

Love the broody pics BTW! The girls are so pretty! Makes me feel the urge to get more chickens! LOL!

I haven't done this personally only because I don't have a bator, but I have sure seen alot of others do it sucessfully, and I'm sure others will weigh in on it too, hope to see a pic of this little Hope soon.. heres

Hey Miss Lydia, I guess great minds think alike! Hope hatched just a few minutes ago and appears to be healthy!! It was really amazing (English major at a loss for adequate descriptive words here) to watch it. DH even got out of bed to come see. This definitely belongs on the Poultry Addiction Anonymous thread too!!

I've candled them, and with the black cochin I watched one hatch one evening, then in the morning I went out to find blood splatters all over the broody pen and her munching down on some body parts!!! I saved the next one, and fired her from hatching again... she's sitting on some random eggs now, because i can't stop her!
