My little girl was dying to go broody too. I only had her, and she too has only been laying for about a month or so. No way for her eggs to be fertile so off to Facebook I went for my chicken buddies.
I asked for seven eggs
I got 12. Couldn't resist putting them all there, I figured if it was too much I'd remove the eggs that didn't develop, but
she's fitting them all. *shrugs* I have no idea how though, she's not that big.
I'm surprised though, she's dedicated to her eggs. She growls at me but she's my little baby and won't peck me no matter how much I harass her. I can't wait to see how she'll be as a mother. That's that Silkie/Aracauna mix in her I guess.
She went broody on golf balls and her own unfertilized egg, and although I had to take her off the first few times she seems determined to have her own chicks
I feel it was only a little bit ago when I brought her home as a few day-old chick.
So for all of you guys, what chickens do you have the most luck with broodiness with? Silkies seem to be the best from what I've seen, I had one go broody before she could lay herself. That's some dedicated motherhood.
