Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I had an old Barred Rock who would take others eggs, but she wouldn't stay and sit on it past a few hours =/

For me Bantams seem to be my best broodys, I don't have any silkies though and I've heard they are awesome broodies too. And stony who is the #1 ace broody person on here has Sumatras and evendently they are great broodys to since he's on # 16 for the year.

most of my Sumatra's are bantam Sumatra's. And Sumatra's are game foul. Seeing lots of similarities here......

If they free range let her be out at that time, then when they go into the coop she'll probably follow them.

Well, she is a cochin banty, and she managed to escape the run and come to the front dorr.... bless her little heart, so i gave her a couple of the big girls eggs and thought if i scramble her an egg every day that would keep her eating? don't want her to get run down...

So your going to let her sit? she'll love the chicks and they'll be bigger than her before she lets them on their own. My frizzle had 2 chicks that were bigger than her before they left home so to speak it was so cute when she would try to cuddle them under her wings, she is a bantam and she kept them with her 12 weeks.

OK, well late last night I slipped an egg back under her so she wouldn't be mad at me. This morning at 4 am she was still on the nest ( I was up getting my husband ready for work). At 7am she was still in the nest. At 9 am still in there. At 2:30. Still in the nest. I have eggs on the way...
