not a broody question....yet. But is anyone else with ducks getting eggs already? One of my Pekins has laid an egg 2 days in a row now. I wasn't expecting any eggs from them for at least another month

Nope no eggs here, I think their froze up, till around March. Congrats if your getting them already.

that's what I thought. I was shocked yesterday when I got one. Then looked forward to one this morning. The silly girl was doing the "funky Pekin mating dance" this morning, all proud of herself. Ducks are hillarious!

They really are, if one of our drakes even looks at one of the girls now, she screams and runs. It's not time yet, even though the weather has been really strange this winter, we're getting upper 50's today after 3 days in the teens and 20's for highs, so they are probably confused. Hows the temps been up your way, that could have alot to do with your seeing an egg.

Well my little chicks are doing fine! Even though it's been pretty chilly I've seen them out from under mama eating and drinking! Makes me laugh about last year when I brooded 20 chicks in the house and was worried about drafts in my 72 degree house!!

So--- I took a closer look today at them because the first one is much bigger than the second. They both hatched out of Buff Orpington eggs. The Buffs who laid them free ranged and hung around a big Americauna rooster who shared duties with a smaller Phoenix/EE cross rooster. There was also a flock of Silkies on the range, and they sort of separated them selves and stayed in their own LF or Bantam groups. So I was VERY surprised this morning when I picked up the smaller baby and saw....... FEATHERED FEET AND LEGS AND ... 5 TOES!!!!!!!

I guess that one of those tough little silkie roosters climbed up on one of those big golden ladies and got the job done!!

I've seen them try but never seen a successful go! So I guess I have a Silk Orpington, or a Buff Silkieton! Pictures are coming tonight!

And mama is still sitting on those last 2 blue eggs! Hooray!

I don't have any ducks but I've got a horse that is shedding already. This unseasonably warm and non-snowy winter must be throwing more than a few of the critters off this year. We still even have swans around!!!
