that's what I thought. I was shocked yesterday when I got one. Then looked forward to one this morning. The silly girl was doing the "funky Pekin mating dance" this morning, all proud of herself. Ducks are hillarious!

They really are, if one of our drakes even looks at one of the girls now, she screams and runs. It's not time yet, even though the weather has been really strange this winter, we're getting upper 50's today after 3 days in the teens and 20's for highs, so they are probably confused. Hows the temps been up your way, that could have alot to do with your seeing an egg.

we had our 2 coldest nights of the year in the last few days. It was 5 degrees the morning of the 1st duck egg. The high was 19.

I don't have any ducks but I've got a horse that is shedding already. This unseasonably warm and non-snowy winter must be throwing more than a few of the critters off this year. We still even have swans around!!!

I bet it's awesome to see swans fly, I love it when a flock of canadian geese fly over head.

well shop broody just won't break. 2 days out of the shop, still puffed up and ticked off. And tonight she snuck back in, and went to her drawer, sans eggs. Being a softie, I gave her 2 golfballs for now.
I'm thinking of giving her a few duck eggs. After I check and make sure the 2 I got in the last 2 days are fertile. If they are, I may save a few for her. She isn't going to give up. And we only have 10 Pekins. And a LOT of chickens. Thinkin about it anyway.......

I hope to see pics of Buff Silkieton soon!

today dh, who is usually annoyed by my chicken obsession, asked if in the spring they would all want to reproduce. I said only a few (2 cochins, 2 silkies, 2 mutts raised by said cochin). He said we should get more (!) of the types that will hatch out chicks (!!)...glad I didnt drive off the road in my excitement

well I ran the idea by my wife. The ducks are technically hers. Even though they don't know it

. She says no more ducks.

. I'll have to work on her.

.

i do know for a fact that the penned sumatra eggs are fetile, and I get 4 or 5 eggs a day from them. so it is probably safest to just give her tomorrows eggs from that pen.
