Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Let Mary out today with her 8 chicks that are now 6 days old. It was 81 here today in Ohio. Mary took a long dust bath, one of the chicks wandered away a bit when one of my year old layers grabbed the chick by her leg. Mary jumped up & I chased the hen away. Poor little thing!! Scared us all, Mary, the chick and especially me!!!! The chick is fine.

Could you guys offer a little advise to a newby trying to get her normally broody hen to hatch eggs? She was broody about a month ago and I ordered hatching eggs and then I realized she'd been broody for almost 2 weeks and didn't want to push her to go another 3. So I asked the person that was selling them to put me down for being on hold and I'd get back to her on about a month. So... She went broody on Friday and Saturday, and just about when I emailed that I was ready for the eggs to be sent, she got off ths nest and hasn't sat since. My eggs come tomorrow, now what do I do?
I'm probably not the lady to respond, but have you tried moving her to a secluded place and putting eggs/golf balls under her? Maybe just getting her off by herself will help her get back to work?

If there dead I'm breaking her broody. I'm tired of er doing this and I have other broodies wanting to set. She can go out with the rest of the girls. My Easter egger is setting hard on 10 eggs, she is very serious and we shall see how she does. It will be a week Saturday.
