I love your little separate pen idea. I may have to copy it. I hope you don't mind. My Sultan hen has been broody for 2 weeks now and we have a raised coop with two large nesting boxes which the girls share. They are not laying eggs in her box. My concern is that when the chicks hatch they will tumble down the ramp or that the other hens will not accept the chicks. My biggest fear is if I move her she may not like her new home and stop sitting on her eggs. Maybe I should wait for them to hatch.
Thanks for posting that, I have really been trying to find a good breed to go back to old fashion broody hen method..incubators are fun and provide a little more control IF you can stabalize them..Iv kinda found that it seems like broody hens are hard to come by, I have been looking for standard cochin hens, and that breed has seemed like its dwindled..is it just me?
