Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Well, the little black chick didn't make it. I noticed as today went on, she was getting weaker looking and not eating and drinking like the other 2. I tried to give her some sugar water with a medicine dropper but it was too little too late. Happens sometimes

The good news is, Gwen and the other 2 are doing great!

so what to do, what to do?????

My wyandotte keeps getting up off her eggs and forgetting which ones are hers. Her whole stack sat alone all day and were cold when I found them.

she is now sitting on some fake eggs, what should I do?

should I separate her and cage her in so she only has one choice for a nest or should I just let her sit on fake eggs?

I HAVE NO IDEA

We lost one today as well. A little chipmunk colored one. We brought it inside and held it and kept it warm and tried to give it food and drink. It just didn't thrive. There are still 4 out there that are with mom, scratching and seeming fine.

I have 1 under a broody that doesn't look good. Hatched with a head injury.....its very weak and wobbly. Not expecting it to make it but letting it enjoy its time under its momma.

if you want her to hatch these eggs then put her some place where she can't get out but can still see the rest of the flock, with food and water of course. even though she didn't sit on them all day some still might make it.

Sorry for your loss, when they pass quickly it's so much better, I had one that hung on for 6 days and that was heartbreaking, glad to hear the others are doing great.

I'm glad your other babies are thriving! Our other two looked great this morning. Mama kept clucking at them to get them to eat more. It's adorable.
