Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

I thought that's what it was! The lady I got her from said Columbian, but the feathered feet and black on the wings had me looking through the catalogs for a match.

One more hatched under my broody!

2 more to go!

Sorry,pics not available

Niss,
Congrats on your chicks!

Blueberry's chicks are a week old now.
Rita has made it through her first week on the nest. However, the last Wyandotte that has not gone broody yet has decided she needs to step in and guide little Rita through. Yep, Saphire has been caught snuggled up with Rita & the eggs playing the egg swap game.

Sad to say, only 2 out of 6 eggs hatched. They sure are cute little buggars though! momma is being a great mom. I wish I had my camera with me last night when I peeked in on her and all I saw were two little heads peeking out from the middle of her fluffy side. I will try to get one tonight. My camera is being a pain the rear. We decided to name the chicks Alpha and Beta. Still not sure what breed they are, maybe when I get a pick posted you guys can help me out!

last night i put 12 eggs under my broody hen.

good luck everyone!

I have a hen that went broody and we continued to take her eggs out from under her. I was getting ready to fire the incubator up to do a hatch of my light Brahmas but decided to let her sit them instead. She just wasn't giving up her broodiness and I was concerned she would continue to sit so long her food and water consumption would be too low. She would continue to sit on the nest after we removed the eggs. We moved her to the chick room putting her nest down inside a livestock water trough, setting it upright as it had been in the coup. We have 8 young Brahma chicks in the chick room old enough to be on the ground. Yesterday three of the chicks hatched 1 was completely dry but two were still drying. We left the nest as it was. Today I am putting pine bedding in the trough to allow the chicks to be able to get to feed and water. I am just not sure what my broody hen will do with any eggs that have yet to hatch with the nest being disturbed. I have to do this soon to allow the chicks access to food and water so if anyone has experience with moving a nest while eggs are still hatching and can give advice it would be appreciated.
