You could look on the auction sites here for specific breeds. And, you can break her of her broodiness until you're ready -or the weather is warmer. I broke my broody a few times just separating her from the coop in a dog crate where she didn't have materials to nest -it works by dropping their temperature. Mama lost an egg last night. It wasn't all the way under her. I grabbed it and it was very cold. Growth looked to be about 2 days behind where it should be and the air cell was really bad and moved down along the side of the egg if you tilted it. I sure hope the other eggs don't have air cells that bad!

I have another one going broody!!!!!!! She was in the nest box last evening when I locked up and this morning (I assume-they all look alike). Anyway, she tried to peck me this morning when I put my hand in there and so I put 4 more eggs in with her and she pulled them right under her. SOOOOO, I put in a call to a girl close by that has lavender orps for some eggs. I hope she gets back with me today!!!!! The hubby got me a hovabator 1588 with egg turner for christmas if all else fails. I know she will do a better job and I really want some lavender ones.

I wonder if my girl couldn't see the egg she lost. I had the light turned off and it was the first time I've done that. I turned it back on for her either way.
