Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

miss broody was sitting on 3 chicken eggs and 1 duck egg. Duckie died during hatch(broke the yolk) last night. This morning all 3 chickens eggs are gone. Miss broody is sitting on the nest. with no eggs in it.
I think the ducks stole them. I dug through all the bedding in the cop and run. no eggs. and miss broody still sits on her nest

Hi everyone, thought I would join in on this thread, as I have my first broody sitting on eggs right now! I know not good time of year but she went broody and so I got her some eggs. We built a new "broody pen" right next to the main chicken yard/pen today, and she is all snuggled in.

Just a little worried now though, we are in south Alabama, but next couple nights is going to be freezing and below. The little house is closed up pretty good, and I have alot of mulched up leaves and pinestraw in there. Also, have covered the whole top of the house with a doubled up thick blanket. Do yall think she and the eggs will be ok?

absolutely, she will be fine. It is supposed to be 26 here tonight. I have 11---- month old little ones in the coop tonight and another new broody with 12 eggs. No worries at all.

ok thanks, was worried. I have only had chickens for about 7 months now, and this is first broody hen. I think she will be a good mama, she took right to her new little house and got right back on those eggs!

in her little coop, with the mulch and blanket, she'll be cozy, as long as she is used to being outside, she should be fine- i love your little set up for her! gives me ideas!

Oh no! I'm so sorry, you must be disappointed.

if you can get her some more eggs, she'll still want to hatch them- maybe set her up in a protected area where no others can get in?
