I remember that horse ranch you could ride to Fiesta Island and go play in the water.... so I am told. And all the dairy s And the Buffalo farm. We moved here in 67. Driving is absolute freedom. I was taught how to drive by my Dressage trainer Aeons ago. I built that cart myself but wouldn't recommend it for Trail driving. Its a show cart. My next one is going to be all steel including the wheels. we have a forecart (a work cart made by the Amish) for all the rough stuff. you can even hook it to a mower and an Amish equivalent to a PTO. I dont have implements for it though. Katee WUVVS pulling stuff hard. Its her nature.

She is very pretty what a fun thing to do.

Thanks I have been driving for thirty years now. At one point I was considering doing commercial work. But Katee is not a good choice for that she is too "high spirited" Percherons come in versions.... work and hitch. Work horses pull plows and heavy stuff. Hitch horses are like the Budweiser Clydesdales. Lots of action and get up and go. Katee LOVES to get up and GO. But she still has that Draft sweetness and the "dont sweat the small stuff" personality.

That's AWESOME, perchie! Next time I'm in L.A., I'm going to have to make a point of visiting you!!!!

(And, yes, Miss Lydia, it's Lake Erie. The horse that I was on in that picture, Silk, he LOVED the water. Would swim at ANY opportunity. Fabulous for giving youngsters confidence about water.)

Most Definately.... though my home is not where I live right now.... LOL. My horse and Goats and Guinea Fowl are up in the High Desert close to the border about sixty miles from the city. I am living with my 95 year old Grandmother Kind of hanging around to make sure stuff goes smoothly. I split my time between the two homes....

Can't find the one with the shaddow just now.

My mini shetland is going to learn long reining this year with a view to dragging the harrow round my fields.

Oh Gawd what a beautiful place for a gallop.... I miss those days of swinging on and just going. This world is such a grand place. I live where the earth breathes you live in the footsteps of ancient history.... We all have a connection with our unique environments that many dont ever get to experience or even realize. From Baby Chicks and Keets to a thousand pounds or more of partnership in horse.... I cannot imagine a life without animals they give us such a sense of what is right in this world. They don't care if you are a Professor or a Failure they just show us how it is to BE.

Apologies for being soo OT....

My plans for the year:
I cant wait to get some of Stony's Sumatra Eggs. And about the same amount each of Keets and Ameraucanas, and Welsummers locally too. I found a woman here who is offering the services of her Cabinet Hatcher in exchange for a donation to a Cancer foundation. This spring is going to be a busy one here. With building coops This time the ""Chicken wing"". and extending the Guinea space to a small flight cage.... I expect to be able to live up at home part time in a couple of weeks. Making it all possible Yay.

Hopefully by this time next year I too will have a broody or three. By the way Katee comes and watches me work in the coop. Its like having a 2000 lb supervisor.

I have big Shetties I plan to drive when I break them in. Your 'little Percheron' would tower over my guys!
lol.png

I do want a drafty though, something big enough to ride and drive.
big_smile.png
I keep telling the Shetties if I ever lose enough weight I'll ride them but I'm sure they just laugh at me.

(They are over size and built like little tanks so it is possible... but highly unlikely

LOL... I love Shetlands as well.... the ones with all that Fuzz in the winter its hard to tell which end is which. Katee is small.... comparatively. I have a Friend that has a big hitch.... Like the Budweiser hitch. We are talking six of them all eighteen to twenty hands. The wheelers (the horses next to the wagon) weigh 2500 pounds each.

Ok so to keep you updated! I still only have one chickie- I think this first one must have been from the egg she had been sitting on before I gave her more eggs (cause I certainly don't have enough chickens already
tongue.png
). I'm expecting chicks any day now! I checked the air cells lat night- large enough, but no movement yet. Luckily (I guess) its been pretty cold so she's been sitting tight to keep eggs and baby warm!!

And yes---- I'm going to post a picture tonight! I just cant do it from my phone at work- or can I ........?
