well I ran the idea by my wife. The ducks are technically hers. Even though they don't know it

. She says no more ducks.

. I'll have to work on her.

.

i do know for a fact that the penned sumatra eggs are fetile, and I get 4 or 5 eggs a day from them. so it is probably safest to just give her tomorrows eggs from that pen.

Now thats a plan you probably don't have to run by the wife..

lol, when I told her miss broody wouldn't break, and i was going to give her eggs, she didn't care. until I brought up duckers. Yeah, thats what I call my (her)ducks. My duckers. Actually it is more of a "hey duckairs" Like on Welcome Back kotter, but with duckers involved.

As would I. I know I was just as excited as the drakes when I brought them home 2 new females last fall.

I went to the coop after work to lock up (it was almost dark by then) and to my dismay, Henrietta left the blue eggs!!!

Granted she wasn't in an enclosed space, and had 2 babies to care for, but all the food and water is within easy reach. She was on them when I left at 9am and by 5 they were cold to the touch. Also one was all poopy. I guess she had to go, and then just moved over to where it's not yucky.

So I cleaned them off and put them back under her, after I warmed them with the hair dryer and aluminum foil! My incubator is broken. They are due to hatch Sunday-ish. Does anyone know how long eggs can be cold for and then still hatch? They are so close I feel badly letting them die! But I don't really want to buy an incubator cause then all I'll do is hatch, and I'm out of room!!!!

And now I'm getting ready to upload some pics of chicks!!

For those of us with mechanical incubators, today would be well into "lockdown" time for the Sunday hatchers which means - don't mess with the eggs. I would worry that cold to touch might be lethal at this point. But I guess you'll let me know on Sunday!!!
