The best part about the broody has been not having to deal with a brooder in the living room, the dust and then the merging into the flock. Yes there were some tense moments - mainly due to my not understanding the ferocity of an attacking mother hen. Also, there have been some really sweet moments - watching the babies learn how to go up and down the ramp has been my favorite thing to watch her teach them. Smokey would do it over and over again. Then finally one by one they attempted it and success!
The two chicks I had in the brooder are now part of the flock as well and everyone is merged. The two older roosters are not gone yet - and they haven't tried anything harmful to the babies. They'll be leaving to their new home soon - probably next week and leaving only the Silkie as our main rooster. Until the babies come of age and I have to decide which rooster to keep again
