Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Molly, the kitty, was SOOO having her one of those baby chicks.

She carefully stalked up on it (with me right behind her)

slowly crouched for the pounce

and frantically flew following a face full of furious flying furry feathers as Mulberry went into full attack mode

she barreled through all the big girls standing on the steps of the deck and disappeared into the house

haven't found her yet.

Good for mama chicken!!

These are the bantam chicks that I got to stick under Chickie with her lone-hatch chick which, sadly, didn't make it. She seems to have taken in the two bantam chicks.

Some cute little feet. For store-bought chicks, they sure did take to having a mama hen!

*Best Eagle impression* Have you ever seen such a dirtly look? "Back away from my babies!" Again, with the two bantam chicks.

We love our new mama.

Seriously, GO away!

Aww!

Well after a few days of bad stuff happining, I came home from the depressing hospital and my momma cochin mix that was sitting on 4 eggs has at least 3 lil fluff balls that look like peguins with feathered feet! They are so cute. when I am feeling better I will post some pictures.

My Salmon Faverolle went broody for this first time in March, hatched "donor" eggs, and is a GREAT Mom! Good luck!

Edited to add - I meant to reply in response to Chooniecat's post 8899! Didn't quite get that copied here. :/

Looks like I get to join this thread again! I just set 7 eggs under my mille fleur cochin who has gone broody for her first time. She's got some silkies, a mille fleur u'ccle, a bantam BR and possibly a cochin under there. We'll see how she does!

Here's Violet :)

What a beautiful chicken!! I wanted to get some millie's this year, but the hatchery was all out when I went. :-( Gonna have to go earlier next year for sure!!!

I'm thrilled, today we got our first chick! 4 more to go. We were heading to take her out to poo and eat when we heard chirp chirp. Our first every chickens, and now our first ever chick!
