Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Thanks Miss Lydia and Chick in the Burbs! I just visited them during my lunchbreak, and two more of the eggs are pipped, and one is almost done zipping. Wowsers!

I'm so happy I could cry. These are Penciled Palms, and I tried 3 shipments of eggs to get them to hatch. I would be jealous of these girls outshining me at brooding if I wasn't so happy about the results.

Well I still only have 1 baby so maybe my guess of when the eggs were set wasn't that far off ..... I think this one was just early!
Mama Hen Caesar is not moving off her nest at all BUT the baby came out for a minute yesterday before caesar pecked her back under.....

SO CUTE!!!! I think the others are due to hatch tomorrow??? or so ......

HELP, my chick 13 is running out of luck, she hatched on Monday.
I found her 30 min ago by herself peak in the head very near the eyes in both sides. I cleaned with peroxide and put cream for cicatrization( sorry my native language is spanish) any ideas what to do next?. I dont want her to die or die alone.

So sorry to hear that. Is this a newly hatched chick? How old is it? You cleaned the cuts and put some cream on it. I would also put it in a separate area until it heals. You can put a lamp on it if it's older or put it under a 75 to 100 watt bulb if it's newborn. Put a stuffed doll for its comfort and a small mirror for it to see itself. Also if you have some Bluekote or similar I would put that on it as it will cover the sore and provide some antiseptic help.

As long as the pecks aren't too deep it should recover. Make sure it has food, water and provide some vitamins like polysol for infants without iron. Let us know how it's doing.

where do i find bluekote? i dont have kids so i am not sure if that is for infants as the polysol. Is two days old, it is my hand. some times peeps really hard, other times like its over. i think the pecks are deeep as i almost at the bone.
