Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

This morning when I took food to mama duck I peaked in and saw 2 ducklings she had a hissy fit, so I didn't stay long lol but I did mange to spy 2 ducklings, I know there are at least 3 because I pulled out 2 more shells. Hopefully she'll bring them out soon so we can see them and I can get some pics, I may try pics this afternoon.

Anyone have any luck with Pekins sitting?? Or Rouens??

I was trying to let my silkie hatch some of my duck eggs but it turns out they weren't fertile - gave them to her too early before my drake was really covering the girls. She needs a break after sitting on those so I was thinking about letting one of my ducks try - I know Pekins are not known for sitting... however, one of my girls dug a nest into the ground about 6 inches deep and covers her eggs with the shavings. The other day when I collected all 3 eggs from around the run and set them down to do something else, she immediately went to the eggs pulled them under her with her beak and then tried to scoot some of the deep litter over them. She didn't stay with them but she definitely shows interest... what do you think? Will I not really know if she's going to sit until she fills her nest? The Rouen doesn't seem interested at all even though they are supposed to be better. If this doesn't work, I will let my silkie try again and candle them early so I know that she's not sitting for nothing...
I know Hollyduckfarmer has had a couple of Pekins brood and I am sure others have too, even though they say Pekins don't brood seems like some still do, leave some eggs laying around after they have laid and see if anyone will take you up on it.

The bin is inside a secure run with a roof, no predators have any chance of getting in. I'm so excited!

I am so happy for her and for you!!! This is the best news! How long do they sit on the ducklings?

Of course, I have a few questions. I am dying to get in and candle. There are so many eggs under them. They have been sitting full time now for 4 weeks, tomorrow. My best estimate is it is a matter of another week. Is it too late to try and move one of them to get a peek? I fear broken eggs, but there is no odor to really tell me they have busted shells. One of the broodys has a caniption fit when I bend over to talk to them. My girl just raises her neck up pretty and wants to hiss at me but doesnt. I just purchased starter food for the babies today.

This is driving me crazy!! LOL!!

Fantastic! cannot wait to see, were these the goose eggs? sorry don't recall.

Congrats Miss Lydia! How exciting! :D
So day 26 for my Call duck's nest is Thursday!! I have some questions:
The area that they will be in is a small pen, so I can have easy access. Hardware wire on two sides, rest is enclosed. Do I need to cover up both sides? It'd get awfully dark in there....or should I just cover one side and face the other towards south so they get lots of sun??? Also, can I give them a shallow pan of water without supervision?
Thanks! :)
