Snownoir do you sell, eat or just love keeping ducks? or all the above? and I may have to agree with you on broody's my 2 youngest are both laying one 1yr this month the other 1 yr next month neither one have shown any interest, nor my oldest ducks which are almost 9yrs old. it's all the ones in between

All 3. :D Its interested that you're seeing a similar trend. When I had 5 girls, 2 of them didn't show interest in being broody. They weren't the ones on top though. They were middle bottom... I hope others chime in on this because it'd be good to know what to expect out of her.

How my ducks do you have?!?

I started with 13 last June. Dwindled that down to 7. 3 went to a great friend of mine, so I had 4 (3 hens and a drake). One of em hatched 17 ducklings, 2 died. So I currently have 4 adults and 15 ducklings . :D

She gets off alot yesterday she got off 6 times @ 30 min each time. Shes a bad broody.???
I for one would not let her set a big clutch. First time mamas can get over whelmed and I like to try and make their first time easy, thats another reason besides birth control that I don't let them have a lot of eggs to sit. I think you'll see he staying longer as the days go on. at least I hope so. After she has been sitting about 7 days take a few eggs at a time and candle them you should be able to see veining by then. Then you can get rid of the ones that aren't developing . I candled yesterday when Hope was off the nest and 1 of her eggs is ahead of the others and they were all laid on the same day, I wonder how that happens? one getting more warmth than the others? What ever it's amazing seeing them grow.

Well she hasn't finish her set number yet I guess. that may be another reason she is getting up more. When she finishes she will stay put and only get up 1or 2 times a day at the most and will run around screeching and feathers all out with head down looking kinda like a banshee, she'll grab a bite to eat run for water, Poop the most nastiest smelling poop and bathe, and not necessarily in the order. Then if there is no one around to chase looking half crazed she'll go back and get on the nest.

Went out to get a couple pics of my broody and my camera is acting up. but anyway here is my broody Hope
flash wouldn't work

Broody wannabes, Emmie Lou and Faith, I took 2 eggs each out from under them before I left for Church, when I got home Faith had 2 more eggs under her and Emmie had 1 so there are some enablers trying to help them out,.
