Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

ROTFL That is so funny Miss Lydia! Enablers!

So my 2 Broody wannabes that I prevented from fulfilling their wishes, seems like the ruffly feathers and freaky squawking has stopped.., but how long until they return to laying? I had zero eggs today. Altho my Lab may have had just one.

Usually mine start laying in about 4 weeks after hatching so probably soon for yours. These 2 wannabes are still laying TRYING to build their clutch but I keep taking their eggs. Poor things are so pitiful, Honestly if I didn't have a wonderful dh to keep me In line heaven only knows how many ducks I'd have.

Well she hasn't finish her set number yet I guess. that may be another reason she is getting up more. When she finishes she will stay put and only get up 1or 2 times a day at the most and will run around screeching and feathers all out with head down looking kinda like a banshee, she'll grab a bite to eat run for water, Poop the most nastiest smelling poop and bathe, and not necessarily in the order. Then if there is no one around to chase looking half crazed she'll go back and get on the nest.
I figured she wasnt done sigh....I tried removing the top of the crate today for easier access, its stuck in the duck coop stupid me. I have to wait for dh to lift the whole coop up so I can get the top off lmao...But he did find me a new nesting box its a toy bin we left it out on the run since we always check the eggs anyway and I cant put anymore holes in my coop, its starting to look like a strainer

Heres a pic of our new nesting box as promised. Dh got it free!! The chickens dont seem to mind it. Then again they have no choice. Unfortunately I couldnt attach it to the coop
