I am one of the worst at candling can see empty and Nasty, I never see movement or veining .

Thank you, well hopefully this will get us what we want.. babies! That candling business has to have a trick to it, one i clearly have yet to learn.

I can see veining. I have only seen movement a few times. I'm always happy to see a large dark mass

The dark mass is all we saw.. of coarse i was trying to be quick with Lilly off her nest and Lilac disturbed we needed to be.

The only problem I have seen the dark mass also and it hasn't been good like the egg wasn't good.. So I clearly need to go to candling school, do you think there is one? The one egg Alice has been on for31 days now I will candle again around tues. hatch is thurs.

LET THE HATCHING BEGIN!!! This is my first hatch and boy, Daisy sure is prompt

. Today is day 29 and I checked in on her like always. I noticed that she was not sitting completely flush on her nest and there seemed to be a gap. Sure enough, a wet little head came up and was peeping like crazy

. I have so much to do today but I want to just sit and watch! I started last year with 4 Pekins (2 male and 2 female). We were remiss just one night and did not close the door to their very secure pen, and sadly, both males and 1 female were kidnapped (fox, I'm sure)

. The next day, Daisy went broody. She seemed so sad and depressed being all alone and I am just so elated that I will have babies as a reminder of our other beautiful Pekins! Daisy is being very protective so I can't get any baby pics yet. I believe only one has hatched but she is sitting on about 20 eggs so hopefully, if more hatch, it will be harder for her to keep them completely covered and I can share! THIS IS SOOOOO AWESOME

I'm glad you mentioned candling, I have been meaning to look up how to do it. My vet says that ducks can stay fertile for a couple of months after they mate and I have a Call on eggs that, if they're fertile, would have been fertilized by my Lavender Runner drake who I separated from the Calls 3 weeks ago because he was picking on them. My Call, Holly, surprised me with 7 babies from him so I want to know whether to expect more ducklings in a couple of weeks or not. It's a combination that will never happen again here, because it's too dangerous for the tiny hen with that big drake, and they're SUCH pretty ducklings that I would like to have some more.

What is the best way to candle?

Hi I just found this thread and since I just took some new pics of my Calls and their ducklings.
This is a pic of my Calls all together

This is Millie, my Blue Fawn duck, with her three ducklings out of five eggs. Two are Grey and the last is a Blue Fawn.

Here is Angel, my White Call duck, with her brood of five ducklings out of six eggs. Three are Blcak Bibbed, the last two are Grey like their daddy duck.

I also have a EE hen that went broody so I put four of Millies eggs under her, she hatched out two. One is a Grey the other a Blue Fawn. All but the five Greys are for sell, I don't ship though, if anyones interested just email or PM me Thanks lots
