So we use to have a goat and his pen area is now becoming the chicken coop. I have reset every post in Cement as well as 💯 rebuilt the covered living space.
My initial thoughts were this was going to be fast and simple. Some post, plywood and reuse the fencing and aluminum roof material from the old to make the new. Wow was I wrong.
After 26 posts in the ground I have the whole outside structure ready for fence (mostly up) and the outside of the coop closed in minus the door.
I can’t wait to get done to get these little (not so much) chicks out of my living room and in their own space. They need more room to roam and be chickens and not 26 inside birds 😂😂.
I Will add photos later of the old pen if I can find them

here is where it stands

oh and I’m not a carpenter but I am good enough to work the tools and make a building stand up. Not 1 cut is straight I don’t think 😂

Well the oversized man-door is in. The first of the windows has been installed and the roof has been trimmed to fit properly. almost move in ready.

I can only imagine what my neighbors think is being built 😂

Looks good! I think you did a fine job - much better than my salvaged coop! What kind of ventilation did you install?
As of now I’m going with windows, windows, windows. They are not all in yet but I am working around the three kids so I get a few hours a day

each window will get hardware cloth when I am done. As well as around the fence line andbase of the coop.

Love it! Great idea to make use of an old set up!

Well with three days of storms I haven’t made much advancement in the coop. But the S/He’s are loving their space! As long as weather cooperates, the fence will finish going up for the outdoor space, the chicken doors will get cut and put in and some more windows! Then I will start working on “the egg factory”, which will be a pallet sized area of nest boxes off the back corner of the coop with entryway in.

I cannot decide if I should put in 2 separate chicken-doors or one. Thoughts?
