My earliest recollections with chickens started in Granddads back yard in 1946. Watching those birds grow into a producing flock was an introduction to God's wonder that has kept me interested and enthused all through the passing years. My first job on the western Kansas farm was taking care of about 200 straight run chickens. The roosters went to market and the hens stayed home. After a time at the university my wife and I set up a home complete with chickens. Only recently, since age has caught up with me have I become interested in raising a variety of my feathered companions. I have started with hybrids, gold comets, and now am looking for birds more in the heritage lines. I have decided to obtain different breeds by incubating eggs from several varieties. Since my educational background is in the physical sciences, I thought why not combine two hobbies and build my own incubator using arduino tech. By finding this site, I believe that resources found here will go a long way in helping me further accomplish these desires. I know this is going to be an interesting ride but look forward to meeting others that have a similar connection with these wonderful animals.
