I had a flock of 5 birds, aged around 4 1/2 yrs when they stopped laying. No surprise. We don't discriminate due to age at Cluckmore House and Gardens, so they will get to live out their lives whether or not they produce.
We took delivery of 5 chicks last Fall. In a few weeks we integrated them into the flock of oldsters via a divided run and coop. About the time they were due to begin laying I removed all barriers and soon the youngsters began to produce, led by a white Leghorn.
In a few weeks my old gals began to lay again and have ever since, being regular producers at age 5 yrs.
We got 9 eggs from the 10 of them on April 1st and just today, the 3rd, we got 7 eggs. The eggs the older gals produce have thinner shells, but are as good as those of the youngsters.
Was wondering if anyone on here has had this occur before?
