I'm not sure. A lady from BYC had a blog and said she has used construction sand for a few years with great results. I got mine at Lowes for under $5 for a 50lb bag. Other people have been saying to use play sand. I guess everyone has a different opinion. I'm going to see how the construction sand works. I have to get a small colander or scoop tho. They say colander is better until poo gets bigger.

Construction sand is bigger particle size and it may not "clump" as well as the finer playsand. Either is fine however.

Lowes/HD would be cheapest if you just need 25;50lbs. If you are doing a whole coop you might want to visit a gravel/mulch company for tonnage (most normally deliver!)

I use this with my reptiles and have not had any problems over the 18 years I've been keeping them. Figuring out how to use it in my brooder now...

I went and got some play sand today since the brooder is still in the house for now. Gonna try it out today.
