oldclucks cabinet incubator build.

My heating kit is coming in today. I don't have room inside my box for a false back like your setup, wish i did. I am going to mount mine on the top and put a small desktop fan in the bottom to help keep the air circulated. I am also using turners for a little giant. I will be drilling two holes large enough to fit a plug in through and placing two power strips inside to plug all this stuff in. I left a small crack at the top of the door, very small, between those holes and the gap it should give me enough oxygen flow. I also have a solid wood door, no window. Just did not see a need in watching eggs go back and forth, that's just me though. I used the same duct insulation you did but have 2" think styrofoam on the floor and ceiling, it came with the box, my boss won a huge trophy and was going to toss the box so i grabbed it. (The Kingsford invitational, see it on the Destination channel ) hoping to have it up and running by Monday !

Well, first large hatch results are in. I set 35 eggs. 4 were clear at 2 weeks. So 31 eggs in lockdown. 12 healthy chicks hatched so about 40% hatch rate. A few other eggs pipped but never made it out. I am against helping chicks out of the shell as in my experience many of them are weak or have some deformity. I certainly would like to see the hatch rates improve. I think part of the poor hatch was the cold temps we had during the time I was collecting eggs. I am setting between 30 and 40 eggs per week so I will see what the hatch rates are like in the next few weeks and keep everyone posted.
I keep humidity about 40 bumping to 60 prior to hatch day.

Congratulations... I just had a hatch too. Out of 130 good eggs 12 didn't hatch. I keep my humidity around 35 to 40% during incubation and around 75% during lockdown.

what is the best n thickest plywood to use? i thought of gettin marine grade plywood three quarters thick.

I think that would be good choice or at least a good exterior plywood. My incubator walls are 3/4 inch thick. It holds the temperature even in the coldest weather. I have it in my garage which is not heated. Although I live in North Central Florida we have gotten some pretty cold weather.

I have had mine up and going for over a week now. Have been very impressed with the 225 watt incukit. It works even better than i thought it would. I had a small problem at first but incubator warehouse customer support helped me change a setting and it worked great. On the preset it would not cut the heat off 100% so i had to change that. He said my box was insulated to well. Once i did that it has been super stable. Will hatch my first set from it in a couple of weeks.

Update:
My second hatch has had a 70% hatch rate. 21 out of 28 that were put in lockdown. I am very happy with that hatch rate.

After 2 big hatches I think I have decided to put contact paper under the hatch tray for easy cleanup. Those bits of broken eggshell are a mess.
