Older hen fluffed up and not eating

I'm sorry your hen isn't feeling well. Five is not that old, I don't know much about New Hampshire Reds but I think she should have a few more years in her. Is it possible she's constipated or has a crop issue? Is she pooping much? Could you ask your husband to check her crop for hardness or squishiness? Best wishes

My son and his wife needed a puppy sitter stat! My daughter in law family member was dying and she had to fly home to her country to help her mom. Now a funeral - sad

Crop felt normal. Not hard , no poop at all today. No food in for past 3 days.
I asked him to try to get her to eat.

Could he try to bring her back out into the coop for the daytime? She can still be in a wire dog crate with her own food and water. If he can let her be with the others during the day, she might eat better. If she refused scrambled soft egg, watery chicken feed, she might like a little canned cat food or tuna. If her crop is not emptying overnight, she may have a crop impaction or sour crop. Can he use a phone camera for pictures of her or her droppings? If not passing droppings, it might help to give a human calcium tablet or Tums, in case she is having trouble passing an egg or a lash egg. It sounds like she may have a reproductive disorder, possibly salpingitis or egg yolk peritonitis, or water belly. Most of the time we won’t know what until a necropsy can be done after death unfortunately. I do home necropsies on any I lose, and I have learned a lot about what can go wrong with my birds.

I won't use that hatchery again- lost 2 and 2 living seem so thin.

I am home.
She is alert and drinking lots of water
He had 2 water dishes w fresh water and food untouched
When I picked her up her crop feels squishy and she immediately expelled clear fluid
Is this sour crop?
Water belly i read there is no cure so I will research sour crop.

I been extremely lucky not to have to deal with too many emergencies but this is a new one.
