Oldest Chickens

Well ladies, it's time. After 10 wonderful years Combs & Connie have stopped laying eggs.

I hope they have a nice retirement!

My oldest hen just passed away. 15 years old. She could not roost anymore and we settled her in a nice corner of the coop. We called her Mother because she was the best ever. Would pull blackberries off the bush and carry them over to her young. Has not laid for years but she deserved a nice retirement. In old age she was still top hen and kept the others in line. I miss her.

I'm so sorry for your loss, You're description of Mother reminds me of my Combs. I can not imagine lossing her and I can't possibly imagine how much your heart is hurting but I assure you that she's happy now and lived a good long life. You sound like a great mother for mother.

I’m late to the thread but my oldest two hens are 10 I had another hen who passed last spring when she was 10
The pictures are beauty (white hen) and brownie (brown hen) I took this one yesterday
plus brownie and black silk (black hen) a few years ago when black silk was about 8 or 9
