Ok, I have an OE X French Copper Maran egg I hatched in August. It’s turned out to be a pullet but today I’ve noticed that she has a lot of green and purple feathers. Now I’ve read that only roosters can have that iridescent coloring. Can hens have that too? My other breeds have shiny feather but not iridescent coloring except for my roosters. I’m hoping I don’t have a cockerel who’s a late bloomer. I’m not very familiar with genetics and coloring.

I have many black hens that look green and purple. I think roosters may just be that much more pretty.

Oh okay, I didn’t know that. Some of my Wyandottes hen do have green tint to their black feathered parts but I never knew that hens could have purple.

She has a mixture of blue and purple. Depending on the angle of when the sun hits her but it’s mostly purple.

Ive got lots of black birds that have purple. It's not as much as the male's, but still there
