This is the last one of these chicks to hatch. It was due yesterday but just hatched about two hours ago. I went to check on it and this is what I found. It looks likes intestines or something, I don't know. It's coming out of it's naval. What is this and is there any hope for it? Anything I can do? I put it in a little plastic bowl on damp paper towel under the heat lamp. OMG I am so upset I am on the verge of tears.

I had one like that and had to cull it. It pulled a bunch of its intestins out trying to walk. I don't know if there is anything you can do or not. I am sorry that this has happened to you.

By folded up into the belly, she means stick them back in and then put a bandaid on his tush. If you have preparation H, you can put that on his vent.

In all cases, because his intestines were out that far, I'd expect him not to live. Prolapse usually is just the vent - not intestines.

In my own humble opinion, I'd honestly consider putting him down (probably sobbing the whole time).

Is that truly intestines, or remnants of hatching (like the blood supply from the yolk or something?) I'd just clean it off and keep an eye on it. If a chick's intestines are spewing out, I would think it wasn't meant to be in this world for long....Sorry - I'd take a "wait and see" approach. Good luck.

OK I put a bandage over it and put it back under the heat lamp. I'm not culling right now. I will wait and see if it does absorb back in and if not then do what I have to do. If anyone has any other suggestions I would love to know them.
