OMG A PIP!!But their is a HUGE PROBLEM...HELP!! (PICTURE)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

omg i have a pip!!! humid is 65% with temp being 99 F. but their is a problem

My plastic thermomitor that came with my LG bator...it is RIGHT ON TOP of the egg that is pipping!!! does this mean the chick will not get any air??? I want to open it and move it over really quick.....but i was told NOT TO OPEN THE BATOR!!!!!! no matter what. AAAAHHHHH it's peeping like mad...i feal it's not getting any air. I actually think the plastic is holding down the area where it has pipped....makeing it harder on him to continue and zip!!!!

My top plug is in. Do i remove it now??? Or when it start's to zip and hatch?? When i remove the plug my humid dropps rapidly....along with my temp. I know it needs fresh air but is it too risky?? HELP!!

About 30 min old here...fell on it's back to show me it's fat belly lol

and here we have my "loan wolf" at about 6 hrs old.

It seems to be hungry!!! It's picking at the membrain inside its shell it hatched from...like it's trying to eat it!! lol Took quite a poo as well.

First, congrats! Second, don't worry about that thermometer. That chick will kick it off and away soon enough. It's very important to maintain the humidity while they're hatching. If he's peeping loudly (and they often do when hatching) he's getting air! I don't know about the plug, but if you're noticing a big change in temp or humidity, it should probably stay in. I hope more experienced pipe up here, but I think they're sleeping now!

Congrats to you and your growing family. I agree with simplyscrambled. The chick will get out from under the thermometer without help. I would not take the plug out unless someone with that specific incubator tells you to. My humidity goes up with each new chick and I believe that it just helps the others stay moist.

Enjoy watching your chicks hatching - but let me tell you it is addicting. I am on my 3rd round and I just watched the first chick hatch in this batch. It never gets boring. I even spent 30 minutes watching one of my hens lay an egg. Now that's a job I wouldn't want to do every day.

They are bantam eggs so the chicks are smaller...thus being not as strong/weeker than other chicks. I was told to remove the plug because the chicks need fresh air circulated from my fan to have a healthy hatch. But i know my humid will drop

Air aka Ventilation, aka NOT suffocating, is a lot more important than humidity. Yeah it might drop into the 60s or 70s but they have to REALLY work to get out and if there isn't enough air they will die in the eggs.

Is your egg laying or in an egg carton? If it's in the egg carton I would move it. Have a hot wet sponge/washcloth (not dripping but pretty wet) ready and throw that in the same time (not on any eggs though

) and your humidity will pop right back up within minutes. If it gets to high you can open the plug. Sometimes my humidity will reach 80 % when they are hatching. 65 is kind of low so if the wet sponge increases it that would be good

If there is a fan in your incubator, you do not need to open any plugs for ventilation (unless you have more eggs set than recommended by the bator manufacturer). If you have a typical hatch, the vents are only used for regulating humidity. I find that I never need to remove the plug in my Genesis bators and have mostly 100% hatches. Good luck with your hatch.

p.s. bantam does not necessarily mean weaker chicks. That is just their size and has nothing to do with the strength of the chick.

Hi there asylum,

How great! I think your chick will be fine, but I will tell you what I did ( I am really not recommending this) After 16 chicks had hatched out of my last batch I couldn't see the two pips in the other eggs ( the chickens had rolled them around and around)

Anyway (oh gee I can't believe I am telling you this!) I picked up the incubator and tilted it until the eggs rolled where I wanted them.

The chicks went everywhich way, but I could see the pips and watch. They hatched and the chickies were fine.

That way i did not open the bator and if you watch the sexing chicks video on you tube you'll know that those little guys are tough.

The point was...that maybe you could gently scooch the thermometer off the egg that way.

the eggs are laying on their sides....no cartons..i still dont know what to do. He is peeping loudly and is still going to town at the original pip site
