OMG!!..coy dogs were just in my yard!!

Good luck with it...without a gun, you are going to lose animals.

If it is a yote x, buy or borrow a gun and kill them. If it is a red wolf...do not kill it. Killing a red wolf is a big no no they are very very endangered and protected.

Most hunters who run coyotes with dogs, hound hunters, run them with Fox hounds- running hounds as opposed to treeing hounds- treeing walkers, english, blueticks, black and tans, etc (all different and distinct breeds of coonhound) Typically treeing hounds are used for raccoons, bobcats, cougars, bear, but do make fine coyote and fox dogs from time to time. Then there are Plott hounds, Curs, etc that are used to run game with hounds, but for the most part July hounds and running walkers are used for yotes and thier different strains as well as curs and plotts among others, though most any scent hound can be trained to run yotes. I know some folks that use beagles and beagle foxhound mixes to run yotes and fox as well as some folks that use sight hounds- greyhounds and thier kind to run them by sight in the midwest and western states. More info than you need for sure, but there it is. Good luck, Keystonepaul

We have them here as well. My neighbor has used firecrackers to scare them off, but they always come back. One of my boys shot a few with his BB rifle, but, they still come back every now and again. The best thing really is to shoot them. Maybe the electric fence will help. We are planning on adding electric line to our fence just for the neighbors dog who climes our fence like a cat . . lol:barnie

Now, I'm not the original poster but I did mention that we've seen something that may be coyote and I did have my own thread about when we first saw it. I don't own a gun but do know people who do. But I live on a 3/4 property with neighbors all around. Isn't illegal to fire a gun in a residential area like mine?
I honestly don't know for sure.

good question henrietta23....i also live in a residental area...so i wonder?...although every fall these hunters hunt in the woods surrounding my house..and i have literally seen them and their dog from my house windows hunting!

...i think they are mostly bird hunters....turkey/pheasant....we have a joke here that we are going to get our goats orange vests...so the hunters dont think they are a deer or something...lol..i'm hoping that this year they will see the goat pen fence and stay away from that area hunting..(this is our first hunting season with the goats and pen there...)anyways, good question!..i'm curious to know this also!...,wendy..

Yikes! I had a fellow letterboxer tell me she was out hiking in a park near here when she and her dog were shot at even though they were both wearing orange. She confronted the guy who claimed he was "sound hunting". Even scarier was that this park is named for a ranger who was shot and killed by a hunter. sorry got a little off topic there
