Pinnioned or wings clipped any breed of duck can work out in your fence idea

My ducks are fenced in, we built them a small pond that a natural underground spring keeps fresh and it works perfectly for them. The pond is only as big as a kiddy pool btw and about 2 ft deep in the back upfront only a few inches. works perfectly for the 6 ducks I have now.

They aren't messy as long as the area they are in is large... well around their pond they can make a mess but that's a given esp after the rain.

If theres water they'll make a mess

Their poo isnt even an issue our fenced in area is large i guess compaired to others but not that big, anywho it works out well

I love my welsh harlequins and cayugas... I wanted some rouens but those will have to wait, as will anacona, and dutch hook bills.. LOL..
Try to get a trio 2 females and 1 male..

I have silkies and they are cute but they are far from cuddly. Well most ducks aren't cuddly. It could also be that I got them as adults instead of ducklings. They are great foragers and their waddle is hilarious.

I'm a runner fan myself though. Everything about them is funny! I have 4, and none of them are really fearful. One in fact is downright fearless, but maybe that's because her broodsister was a gosling... they are best friends. One of my runners I got from Streemers already feathered out, and she's very friendly and outgoing.

On the other hand I don't have anything to compare them too. So maybe compared to other ducks they seem fearful.

my first love was the welsh harliquins but now i have a few breeds and love them all. each breed is unique it its on way. if your hubby is worried about noise i would do muscovy. if not just pick the 1 you like best for looks or get a few mutts even.

I've got muscovies and dutch hook bills. I love them both. Scovies are always tame and full of character, plus they are not noisy. My hook bills are also fantastic and for a mallard type, they are not very noisy and they are really beautiful. They are also a pretty mellow breed and not hyper or overly sensitive. The hook bills are not very fixated on water either which seems strange but fine with me.

Good luck on your choice!
