I think they are even too young for someone to have gotten tired of them.
What I bet happened... TSC usually has a minimum number to purchase. I bet someone bought the minimum, but wasn't "allowed" to take home that many, so they tossed the extras out the car window!

Just wanted to give you all an update - the babies are doing well! Must be about 1.5 weeks old now? Zoey has been an excellent mother. After a couple of days, I merged her and the chicks with the rest of the flock. She seemed very happy to be able to roam around and dust bathe , and the babies have been well-respected by the other hens. (Some of the other hens seemed a little freaked out by these strange zippy puff balls hahaha). No aggression issues at all. The chicks have already learned to drink from nipple waterers and how to perch on branches and scratch around in the compost pile. All is well!

No, not really at all! She was definitely poofy and vocal around other hens, but mostly the other hens just seemed to know not to mess with her.

A couple of times she’s chased off some of the lower-ranked girls, but that’s normal pre-chick behavior from her too.

Just another update:

The tiny stray baby dinosaurs continue to grow! They’re probably about 3 weeks old now and I’m thinking they’re gonna be girls, gut feeling based on all your earlier feedback and reading I’ve done, I’m going to officially name them, with names that fit their mystery-laden stories:

Everyone meet #TheGillians - Special Agent Dana Scully and Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson.

Scully (the reddish & white one) and Stella (the black and white/blonde one) are totally thriving as part of the flock with with other #theSOUTHwestwing and #deadlyviperassassinationsquawk ladies, and they’re cute as can be. Oh boy, I’m up to 11 chickens now - how did that happen!!!???
