OMG I stepped on my BO chick's foot - UPDATE 5 days later 100% healed

UPDATE:

Curry is still really sore and is hobbling around the brooder. She's reluctant to put too much weight on her injured foot but will do so to get around. The foot is black and blue and swollen. I bandaged it overnight but took off the bandage this morning, as she seems to do better without it. It bled a tiny bit but not too much. All toes work and she's using the foot to scratch her head. I think it's her ankle that's injured.

She's sleeping right now.

Wrap the whole toe in a MoleSkin splint and she'll be back to normal in a few days!

MoleSkin is thick and very sticky. She's small enough that it will act as a cast.

That's what I was thinking. She is using it, which seems like a good sign, even though it clearly hurts a lot. She got out of the brooder this morning on her own, another good sign. It's not at a weird angle or anything and she can clench with the claw.

Whew... what a close call. Thanks for all your support!

I think that telling DBF was the hardest part. When he got home I said, "I need to tell you something but I don't want you to yell at me b/c I'm already upset."

He replied (laughing), "what, did you break something?"

Me: Um... almost.

UPDATE - As of yesterday, the little BO is walking 100% normally. She rested quite a bit, and hobbled around some. The leg turned black & blue and clearly hurt her quite a bit, but it must not have been broken. The scales haven't grown back but Curry seems just fine now.

Whew!

If it is still swollen, try getting some liquid motrin/aspirin for infants and give her a half of a drop. Not much for a chick but it may help the swelling and pain a little.

I would try it if it were me...and you see what lengths I go to for mine. hahahahaha
