I have a friend who works front desk at a hotel, and after working there for over 10 years, she doesn't even hesitate anymore. She would have called the cops already a WHILE ago! Better safe than sorry!
I would check with the manager about how to deal with belligerent drunks - you know how some companies can be! If there's any hesitation, point out that a drunk may be annoying the other guests and even trashing the room.
Anyway, after you've dealt with him, by manager or cops or whatever, go to http://notalwaysright.com/ and turn it into a good story
Someone like that would be asked to leave.Screw the money.Drunk people do things they might not normally do,and a man who makes comments about women like this guy is already one step closer to being a risk to you.
The comment about not liking women bothers me. A couple more drinks and you don't know that he isn't going to lunge the counter. I would be very careful and take any precautions you can. Can you have someone run a quick check on his record? At least check his name on the sex offender registry. You might want to make a non-emergency call to your local police and ask casually that you have a long term guest who is starting to make it a habit to get intoxicated and then attempt verbal aggression and it seems to be escalating. Ask what you should do, how long it would take them to get to you normally when this seems to happen, etc.
Love all the responses, thank you!! ...calling my boss soon to have a long talk about this man. I have worked at front desk for close to 15 years now and NEVER EVER had a man like this. He wasn't even at the point where he was totally loaded either, I smelled alcohol but the guy was still walking/talking straight yet. Could imagine when he's really drunk! He kept threatening to call his "company" who is paying his bill for him. I'm thinking of beating him to that and telling his company what an arrogant A** he is! AND The "you know what, I hate women" thing really bothered me as well. THAT is the comment that made me want to strangle him (I was shaking SOO BAD, trying to hold myself back) I'm not dealing with him on Friday night. I'm telling my boss I WILL call the police, and if she doesn't want me to then she better get someone else to work. I CANNOT be nice to this person any longer. Seemed like the nicer I got the more annoyed he got. Usually, if I "out nice" them they calm down and appreciate all I tried to do to fix the situation. I did everything I could besides buy him a new grill. Which he DOES expect by tonight HAHA if we do not get the others working.
In the current job market, I'm not sure I'd go with the "I'm telling my boss I WILL call the police, and if she doesn't want me to then she better get someone else to work" route. What I would tell your boss is that this guy was drunk, rude and belligerent, and you feared for your safety, and that of your other guests, and ASK your boss what she would like you to do if it happens again.
I would definately document everything and let your manager know what happened. Then it is really up to her how she would like to handle it. I've always been told to kill with kindness but he was just being ridiculous.
I know I was in a situation like that one time in a resturant when a customer was just being rude and disrespectful ( he had been drinking too) She told me that I dont have to be talked to like that and she asked him to leave.
Just talked to my manager and she was REALLY nice about it and told me she was sorry I had to deal with him and to not hesitate to call the police if he comes down on Friday and is calling me every 10 seconds. She told me to hang up on him and just simply say I will be calling the police. And yes he does work at a clinic here! YIKES! How scary is that! We will see how he is on Friday night. Now I can't wait! I've had to call the police twice in the 15 yrs I worked at a hotel. Once was for a naked drunk guys wandering our halls and another was a for a homeless guy who wandered into out hotel and decided to take a nap on our sofa. HAHA And yes I did document EVERYthing he said to me and my boss did see all the phone calls that he made to the desk. She called him and told him that if he keeps harassing us that he WILL be asked to leave the hotel. She IS calling his company as well today. She does NOT put up with men like that thank goodness. Today when I called she said that he cornered one of the housekeepers and complained about the grill too. She was scared of him and went down to tell the boss and she went right up there and told him off. The good thing is that she does believe us and is on our side which is a good thing
All the documentation was also sent to the owners of the hotel AND his employers
I really don't think he will control h imself and I think he will be asked to leave.
