4 yeard old Silver Laced Wyandotte -- started acting strange a week or two ago - wouldnt come out of the coop, lets me pick her up (never happens) -combs are pale and seem to be regressing, she seems uncoordinated and not moving much - is lethargic and - not really sure if she could see me. Poops were normal up to this and now there just isnt much poop at all -she is isolated and has been for 6 months since the other hens started picking on her about 9 - 12 months ago -I dont rememeber. She has not hardly touched any food or water and has become very skinny -- feathers are puffed. I have made her boiled eggs, mash with molasses, yogurt, etc. I'm having to open her beak to give her nutrients. I let her out today for a little while and she barley had enough energy to go and hide under a bush. The other hens attack her and made her combs bleed so I put her up. She has never been much of an egg layer and hasn't laid eggs in over 18 months.

UPDATE: she has a gurgling noise now when she breaths and her eyes are closed more than open when I am around and moves head a little funny - like a blind person. She hasn't been much of an eater in the past few months. Hens started being mean to her about a year ago -and I seperated her 6 months ago so she could eat. Is this advanced stages of Avian TB?? I have her in a dog crate in the laundry room to keep her warm. The feed store told me to cull her but I don't know if I could do that to my pet but don't want her to suffer either.

Other hens seem fine but I am scared that this is Avian TB and will effect the rest of my girls (only have 4) -- as they have attacked her the other day and drew blood. Also - one ran in there when I was cleaning and started to try and eat her food.

Please help with advice.

I recommend calling around to local veterinarians, TB is not something that is cool to mess around with and they may be able to give u more help and do an exam on her or something. If they dont know you could always see if they have any ideas.

Almost sounds like the other chickens knew she was sick and pushed her out as part their natural instincts.

If you feel she needs to be put down a vet usually doesn't charge much because they don't want to see animals suffer either. That would be my first choice. Sounds like she isn't doing well.

Sorry that this is happening.

She has been in a seperate coop by herself for the past 6 months - it is right next to the other coop - my buff orpington started beign absolutely brutal to her and I had to seperate her so she could eat and sleep in peace. I have treated for lice/mites. Not worms although I do use Daily Hen Health by Hilton Herbs in thier water every day. Also -thier poop has been normal nicely formed poop - not watery, frothy, etc. She just recently started losing weight - like within the past 2 weeks and then wouldnt come out of her coop last week and started acting funny - it's gone down hill from there. The other 3 hens are looking healthier than ever - scratching and digging up earthworms. They all free range during the day and go in at night.

If she hasn't laid in awhile, she may have a malfunction called internal laying/egg peritonitis, but she is considered elderly. At that age, sometimes, their systems break down and she may just be nearing the end of her life. I seriously doubt Avian TB, but a vet would be the only way to know, that is, if you could find one that knows diddly squat about chickens.

I know - I live in the chicken capital of the Mid Atlantantic and cant find a vet anywhere that doesn't work for Tyson. Her beak is all frothy this morning and eyes closed and head keeps going backwards. Not eating or drinking anything. Really warm too. I just wish it would hurry up and happen - I'm going to call my personal vet this morning and see if she can help.

I'm sorry for your loss.
