Omg omg omg eww, but what to do???

This is what I was worried about, but hubby says he was really careful and the bird looks better than it did before intervention. I am really really really anxious about his health, all things considered. We are definitely never eating this guy, no matter the sex. He pretty much has a permanent place here. Hubby is feeling guilty over what he said earlier about throwing out all the eggs...he feels bad because he could have thrown this little guy in the trash!

Yes, I was concerned about over-heating the chick too. I held him in my hand to make sure he wouldn't get too hot. My fingers told me to keep the blow dryer moving, LOL. I would agree though that you need to be more careful with a tiny little quail chick... Good luck!

So how is the baby? I assume, you cleaned out the bator s best you could and the hatch goes on.
Did you put the baby back in the bator or in the brooder?

I had a baby once get wet and tromped on while I was still hatching. I rinsed it off with warm water, blotted it dry with a soft wash cloth and put it back in the bator to dry fast, overnight. She is one of my M. Gold breeders now, My Delima.

He's still kicking, currently drinking some water my husband put in the incubator....so yeah, he went back in the incubator. We'll put him in a brooder sometime tomorrow morning, hopefully with buddies....hopefully. Hopefully the bacteria in that egg and the subsequent bath won't hurt him any. We're definitely keeping an eye on him.

We've been peeking through the window other than to add that water. Tbh the egg I cleaned off has me really nauseous and not wanting to go near the incubator at all.

Does the incubator smell? If it does, as soon as he is walking pretty good and dry, then I would move him to the brooder.

Keep the humidity up by adding a wet toweling, sponge or something. But if there is stinky in there, move him out as soon as soon as he is ready, don't wait till morning. Once he is dry and walking. Just in case.

Or are you nauseaous just from dealing with the stinky. I could be misunderstanding you. In which case he is better off there, a confined place to learn to walk.

Ok , quail is still alive, two others hatched this morning, no other pips. Amazing anything survived that sellers rotting egg shipment. I'll try to get pics later. I'm done with eBay, that was gross and frustration is not worth questionable "savings".
On the bright side, got 5 eggs out of my quail today ---guaranteed fresh
