My very first hatch, due Wednesday Dec 23rd - I've never even HELD a baby chick before, I'm so excited and bleddy terrified!

Mama silkie will hopefully know what to do when the time comes because I sure don't

She's sitting on 4 eggs, I don't know how many will hatch but I hoping for the best -

Any advice for a nervous first-timer??

Sit on your hands, drink hot chocolate, and wait patiently! Depending on how feisty Mama is, she may not let you hold the chicks right away.... and, ENJOY! Congrats on your new babies.

Luckily mama hen is SUPER gentle and docile, she lets me peel her off the eggs every morning for her potty break in the coop, she's like a rag doll LOL!

I remember the first time I held a baby chick. Just feeling a little body in your hands- heartbeat and all- is just so amazing.

Unfortunately not this time around as she caught me by surprise by going broody all of a sudden, I hadn't saved any of her eggs...

It'll be for next time

These babies all have a white silkie roo dad and sexlink moms, not sure who though... I have both red and black ones.

You are hatching eggs??!!!?? I am soo jealous. Please post pics if/when you get them. Little baby chicks are too cute for words. All the Keeters send their cute tail waggles and wish you success on your first ever hatch!
