I pierced it with the needle. Lots of air came out and it seemed to relive him for awhile, but it has filled up again.

If you remove more air, hold your finger over the hole and press gently on it to try to get it to seal. I have never done this or had this happen, only read about it. It can keep filling back up, but most report that it does it less and less. I do know of a friend online that last year had a cockerel die because he blew up all over. I have helped others recently that have had lesser injuries and better luck. I'm hoping your guy does well. Keep us updated.
