LOL! Yeah, I don't like their coops either. On cost, I don't see how you can have one built any cheaper. Only if you did it yourself...which we won't do.

Do you know of another manufacturer who makes large walk-in runs?

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing, but I want it to look good and blend in with the trees. This one looks good in the photos. Maybe I will look for some ideas to build something. It's costing $3K to build the coop so I don't want to spend that on a run!

I guess if you can spend 3k on coop you can spend another 1k on run....
.....not sure you'd find anything to buy that's the same size, ready to go, just as attractive, and less expensive.
Can't wait to see your coop....and hear if these runs are as good as they look.

Chain link dog kennels work great as runs.

I'm using a chain link dog kennel as a run. The nice thing is you can customize it to suit your yard and flock. I'd say go big as feasibly possible, especially if you can't let them free range, because once they start growing up it'll feel like the space you give them is never enough. My main run for my 4 chickens is 10x20 but I did put the coop in there as well. I have a second, larger run/fenced garden which they usually have access to as well.

If you're wanting to make a chain link fence as invisible as possible, you can get a black coated wire instead of galvanized and it really does disappear against a backdrop of trees. It will cost more though to have the colored wire instead of the standard silver color.

If predators are a concern you'll need to reinforce it with hardware cloth or welded wire as the openings in chain link are easily big enough for something like a raccoon to reach in. I'd be concerned about the opening size in the omlet run as well, though I can't say for sure if predators can get in as I don't have any experience with the omlet run.

As long as the coop is secured each night, chain link needs no reinforcing with hardware cloth.

Great idea on the black dog run fencing! I will take a look. I plan to make sure the chicks are in the coop every night so I'm only worried about daytime hours.
