On a new hatching adventure :-)

The hatching eggs I ordered from Ebay and let them sit out over night. I am hoping to at least get a good hatching rate. This is my 1st time with duck eggs so crossing fingers. Pointers would be appreciated.

Awesome! What breed of ducks? :jumpy

Tell us a little about your plans - like what type of incubator, what temp/humidity settings you are planning to use, etc. We are always happy to share our experiences and hopefully help you have a fantastic hatch!

I have been following this so far. Temps are holding for the most part..the humidity is tricky but sticking in the 35- 45% range except for when I go to turn the eggs it spikes. I do use somewhat wet hands... Every now and then I have to vent it due to the fact it is in my laundry room.

Call & Bantam duck White calls, Penciled Calls,Blue Bibbed Calls, Snowy, Silver appleyard bantam,Australian Spotted bantam

Oh wow! Awesome. Ravyn, Pyxis and I have Calls too. They can be a challenge to hatch. Their necks are short and the stubby bills can make them struggle to hatch on their own. Especially the really type-y little ones. @Ravynscroft and @Pyxis are great resources for hatching them.

Thank you for this info! I am a bit nervous as this is new to me. Thank you so much for all the info :-)

No problem. We are here for ya! And hope you have an awesome hatch. We'll do all we can to assist you, if necessary.

So.... 35-45% humidity should be good to start. Just keep an eye on your air cells. Candle a few when you do your hand turning. What day are they on now?

I just read that, has some good stuff, but it also contradicts itself... says 35-45% humidity for incubation, then says 55%... personally, I do 30-40% for my Calls, with good results...

Also, the reason for wetting your hands when turning is actually the same reason we mist the eggs *sometimes*... evaporation of the water off the shell actually pulls more moisture out of the egg... so if your air cells are getting too big too fast, stop wetting your hands... and yes, the wetting/misting of the eggs will cause humidity to spike for a bit, don't worry about it, it lowers once the water evaporates... and I would only wet your hands once per day while turning, not every single time, just fyi...

And I do 65% for hatching, higher *can* cause edema in the ducklings... they do fine at 65%... :)

:fl for a great hatch!
