im on day 24 and last night I finally heard my chick chirping. There’s no pipping. I have a self made incubator and the humidity I know became lower than what is recommended (60). I have increased the humidity. Do I just sit and wait ? I haven’t heard chirping this morning. Anything I can do or check on or just leave it be? Any advice would be great!!

chicken chick ?

Ok in case you come back on an we miss you.
The first 24 hours are day 0 then day one starts.
If you had a few nights or periods if of time that the temp dropped the growth will slow down a bit so it can be normal for a late hatch. Please be patient because if the chicks are strong they will come into this world and if not they won't. I know it's stressful but it's way more stressful to assist. Please just watch your temps and humidity and try not to assist.

I assume they’re chickens that you’re hatching? If so, as I’m sure you know, they’re quite late hatching so it is likely your temperature was a bit low throughout incubation.
I think I would leave the chick and see if it manages to get out by itself. If by morning there is still no sign of a pip (as Skipper says, there could perhaps be a pip on the underside) you will need to make a decision as to whether or not to assist. Disclaimer; im not suggesting that you definitely do help, that has to be your decision and unless you’re certain I’d leave it, especially if you’re not experienced. Some people say you should never help, however I do if I’m certain the chick is not going to get out. In my experience about 50% of the chicks I assist survive. Here is a really good article that may help you decide.

So the chick did hatch but I could tell when it came out something wasn’t right. It’s lower part look distended and it couldn’t stand or lift its head. I’ve had one more hatch and it’s done the same thing. They are so vibrant and alive in the eggs. I don’t know why they are coming out like this !

Yes I have a pic. Unfortunately both have passed away
