The Skirmish

The foals grew fast in the five months after Bullet and Raven’s encounter. Their legs grew strong, and they began to get more stamina, which enabled them to run swiftly for long periods of time.
Bullet’s gaze followed Flame’s golden body as he raced another black colt. His muscles bunched beneath his pelt with each lengthy stride.
Vanner stuck out his tongue. “Stupid Flame.” He muttered. A coal black muzzle came from nowhere, striking him on the rump, slicing his flesh. Vanner gasped in fright, leaping away. “What’s wrong with you?!?!” He screamed at Twilight’s smug face. “Quit calling him names.” She growled. Vanner pinned his ears; “He deserves it Twilight.” He snorted. Twilight stuck her front lip up. “Sure he does. Just because he is better than you at everything, doesn’t mean he deserves to be called stupid.” She sneered. Vanner lunged at Twilight, but a sleek black and white body cut between him and his target. Vanner’s chest hit the small body, and his teeth snapped directly infront of Twilight’s black muzzle. She squealed, and took off towards Flame. Vanner shoved against the foal stopping him, then stepped away. Gypsy crouched there, her eyes squeezed shut. “Gypsy! I’m so sorry, I didn’t, uh see you there.” He muttered. Gypsy straightened, her blue eyes meeting Vanner’s brown ones. “It’s alright.” She murmured, as she began to walk away. Vanner’s heart lurched towards her, and he found his hooves closing the distance between them. “Wait, Gypsy.” He found himself saying. Gypsy turned, cocking her slender head. “What’s up?” She asked. “I uh, well, thank you.” He said, and nosed her quickly; he turned, and gave a gasp of surprise. Flame’s large golden body stood in front of him, his eyes burning. “So, you were gonna’ bite Twilight huh?” He snorted. Twilight poked her head out from behind Flame, and grinned. Vanner just stood there, at a complete loss for words. Vanner saw, out of the corner of his eye, Gypsy pulling up beside him, her teeth bared. “Listen fly-head,” She growled. “Twilight bit him first. You both need to get your rat tails out of here, and mind your own business.” She glowered at them both. Vanner closed his eyes for a second, and took a deep breath; I love her. He thought. Flame’s angry voice jerked him from his trance; “Oh Gypsy, you’re such a grasshead.” He spat, and shoved her aside. Vanner bared his teeth. “What’s wrong with you Flame?!” He snorted, rearing. Flame’s eyes danced. This was exactly what he wanted; to fight; to win against the lead stallion’s son. “You wanna’ go?” He sneered. Vanner’s eyes burned with hate; “Oh yeah.” He growled. “Alright then, you can have the first shot. I like to have a fair fight.” Flame smirked. He began to dance around Vanner, lifting his knees in self-confident strides. “You know what?” Vanner began; “I was going to say the same thing, but you said it first, so now, I get the first shot. How nice is that?” He sneered. Flame let out a growl, and continued circling. Vanner watched the colt’s chest and legs, looking for a weakness. He saw one, when Flame stepped just a little off, and he dove at him. Flame squealed angrily, and rushed at Vanner as well. Vanner timed his jump first, so he hit Flame squarely on the chest, ripping open a large gash. Flame screamed in pain, reared, and crashed down on Vanner’s back. Vanner screamed in agony as a sickening crunch echoed through the trees.

~Chapter 5~

The Banishment
Vanner’s body lay limp on the ground, his back twisted. Gypsy uttered a piercing scream of horror, and flung herself beside the colt. “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” She screamed, her cheeks hot with tears. Flame’s ears flicked back, his eyes huge. “I don’t know!!” Was all he could say. Suddenly, a scream of rage came from Bullet’s hill. The massive stallion barreled towards them, and slammed into Flame. “You killer.” He snorted, his voice deathly calm. “You did this?” He motioned towards the still figure of his son. “And why?!” He growled, his eyes burning with rage. “P-please B-b-bullet-t, I c-can e-explain!” Flame yelped, as Bullet’s teeth sank into his neck. He was jerked off his hooves as Bullet swung his head side to side, shaking the colt like a ragdoll. “Please Bullet!” Flame wailed. By now, all the mares were gathered around. Rose cried out in horror when she saw the scene. “Bullet! Please! That’s my son!!” She wailed, falling to her knees. Flame burst into tears, flailing his long legs. Bullet flung him away, the large colt falling to his knees. “Leave Flame. Leave, and never come back. If I ever see your face again, I WILL kill you.” Bullet growled, his voice deadly. He advanced towards the colt, his teeth bared, head snaking side to side. Flame whimpered, and licked Bullet’s chin. “Please, dad, I’ll never do this again, just please! Let me stay!” He yelped. Bullet rushed at him, his teeth grazing the colt’s throat. “I SAID, LEAVE!!” He bellowed. Flame scrambled to his feet, and sprinted away, tears falling.
