On haggling... A small rant about being "Nickel and Dimed."

A few weeks ago I was selling sime of my extra RIR's on Craigs list. One guy wanted to do an exchange of organic beef for the pullets. No problem I thought. He wanted to give me $75.00 dollars worth of beef for 6 of the girls that I had advertised for $15.00 each. And then he wanted me to deliver them to his place and pick up the beef. We passed on that "deal' when He wouldn't budge on the amount of beef. Sorry I'm not going to "give" you a free chicken and the gas it costs me to exchange the animals.

This thread has me wondering- How many people that have responded, rely on selling for their income?? and not selling for a company or a hired job.

BUT selling for a product they grow/raise/make?

Just stick hard to your sale. I was selling two birds for 25 and the person kept insisting 20, I said, sorry, and was going to just leave with the goods, got in the car and they decided they wanted it and I got my 25, even though I probably could have gotten 20 for them each. Just needed to get them out on the weekend I was home.

I sell for a living, but it's vintage items. and I have had some incredibly low-ball offers. I just say no, can't do that. It usually sells anyway.

Re: Selling on Craig's List- I always INSIST upon meeting in the parking lot of a prominent hotel, right by the main entrance. Even my sister has to meet me there,

Sitka, you were right in the way you handled it, sometimes you have to just give in. It's not worth the risk and/or hassle. But now you know even more than before.
