Greetings,

I am hoping that some of you might be able to give me some advice. We are looking to adopt a new peacock after losing our beloved india blue male. We would like the creature to be a pet, and as tame as possible. I have heard that you have to get them a day old in order for them to be truly tame. Of course if we do that, we won't be able to tell if the chick is male or female, and we would prefer a male. I noticed that some people hand raise their chicks, and I was thinking we could get a juvenile old enough to be sexed.

My partner had a pet rooster that he raised from a chick, and he says that the rooster imprinted on him and would attack anyone else. That started me wondering whether a peachick hand raised by someone else would fail to become tame for us. If that's true we will get a day old peachick and take our chances re the gender. We could learn to love a hen too!

I wonder if anyone has experience with this and could advise on the best thing to do. I've only had an adult bird so I am clueless.

Thanks!

Victoria

Yes getting them as day old will be a great help actually hatching them out yourself to where they see a human face first works best but even then you have to work with them daily if you want to pick them up all the time, i have tons of imprinted peas i can pick any of them up but they still squawk but they think it is ok to touch me all they want and steal things out of my lap and pockets, they also like to steal my husband things when he is working on something.

Where are you located, i do have tame peas available

Looks like a happy group of lovable peas! Do you bring yours in at night? There are a million hungry coyotes around here so we are always on guard!

Howdy! We are in the Los Angeles area, quite a long way from you. But I can't find what I want around here thus far, so we might be needing to make a road trip. Might be fun to visit Texas!

That would be awesome. We sure are willing to take a long road trip if necessary but it would be nice if we could go somewhere in California.
